The Kenya Bureau of Halal Certification (K.B.H.C)

Kenya Bureau of Halal Certification (KBHC) is a not-for profit making trust founded in the year 2007 with an aim of ensuring that Muslims consume lawful or permitted products that comply with the Islamic dietary standards, as prescribed in the Holy Quran. KBHC comprises of 14 Islamic institutions within Nairobi, with their representatives as Board of Trustees. Some of these institutions include, Jamia Mosque Committee, Al- Momin Foundation, Ummah Foundation, Parklands Mosque, Bait-Ul-Mal Mosque, Majlis Ulamaa Kenya, Park Road Mosque, Masjid Nur–South C, Kenya Arab Friendship Society, Eastleigh Business Community, among others.

In February 2013, KBHC became a full member of the World Halal Council (WHC), having
been an associate member since 2008. The World Halal Council whose headquarters is in
Istanbul, Turkey brings together various halal certification bodies around the world with its main
goal being to set universal halal standards to be used by these certifying bodies.

In April 2013, KBHC was accredited by the Malaysian government body in charge of halal
certification (JAKIM) as a recognized foreign halal certification body in Kenya. Food products
destined for the Malaysian markets have to be approved by KBHC as halal compliant.
